Before you set out on installing a roof, decide what metal roof would you like to install on your house. The most preferred roofing options in metal roof are:

Measure the length and width of the roof by using measuring tools. Determine the slope of the roof by placing a carpenter’s level on the lower side of one rafter in the attic.

• Since slope is equal to rise over run, measure the rise (vertical distance) from 12-inch mark on the run (level) to the lower side of the rafter. 
• Now multiply the area with the slope which will result into the total square foot of your roof. Make sure that when you order supplies for your roofing project according to the square footage, order 10% more for waste.

In removing the old roofing, begin with the top of the roof and remove any old shingles. As you remove the vents and shingles, some nails will be exposed. Make sure that you hammer them down to make the surface smoother.

• Check if there’s any damage in the underlying sheath and make the necessary repairs.
• Now install a layer of roofing insulation.

Use 1 - ¼ inches nails to surround the edge of the roof with the strips of metal eave. That’s why this is called edging

• Now place the corner pieces where panels will meet bends at the edge of the roofing.
• In the case of gutters on the eaves, the eave flashing should be installed to overhang the lip of the gutter by about 1/2-inch.

Install the first panel that it overlaps the edging by ½ and ¾ of the inch and is square to the roofline.

1. Roofing screws should be installed vertically along each rib in the panel. Do not overtighten the screws.
2. Use silicone sealant along the underside of the short panel to act as an adhesive. Install the panel in a way that the short lip overlaps the large one.
3. Keep adding panels to cover the whole roof.

• Decide the placement of the vents in the roof and mark the vents by outlining the roof cuts. Use a skill saw to cut the outlined space.
• Apply sealant to the edges of the holes and install vents into them. Use fasteners in the kit to secure the vents.
• Now apply another layer of sealant on the outer edge of the vents and then place the cover over the vent opening and screw.

Flashing fits over joints of two sections of the roof. It helps keep the roofing dry by directing the water away from the joints. To install the flashing between two meeting sections of the roof, bend the flashing into a V shape.
